Tripura, 31 March 2025: In a unique ritual, the entire village came together to organize a frog wedding in hopes of relief from the scorching heat. On Saturday night, the women of Asharambari village arranged the marriage of two frogs, believing that this ceremony would bring much-needed rain.
However, opinions on this tradition are divided. Some recall that a similar wedding was held in 2024, after which the state experienced devastating floods.
Others are taking a lighthearted approach, making jokes about the event. Regardless of differing views, the people of Asharambari, under Khowai subdivision, continue to follow this age-old tradition, firmly believing that the wedding will bring the blessing of rain.
The wedding was celebrated with great joy in the village. After the ceremony, the villagers placed the two frogs in a small plastic cart and took them around in a procession.
However, despite the ritual, Tripura has not received any rain yet, and the heat wave continues for several days.
