Agartala 28 March, 2025: The state, along with the rest of the country, is advancing toward development. The state government is both progressive and responsible, and the budget proposed for the fiscal year 2025-26 is timely and appropriate. No new taxes have been introduced in the proposed budget, which focuses primarily on education, healthcare, drinking water, and technical education.
Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma made these remarks while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget presented in the state assembly. Supporting the proposed budget, the Forest Minister highlighted that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, 2,77,970 farmers have benefitted, with ₹842.62 crore deposited directly into their bank accounts.
He also mentioned the government’s initiatives to promote organic and natural farming. Other key proposals include the construction of a new building at Khowai District Hospital, plans to establish a women’s university, rainwater harvesting projects for drinking water supply, and the construction of an elephant watchtower in Teliamura. To prevent deforestation, drones will be used for surveillance, and forest markets will be set up in every district to facilitate local trade.
Minister of Cooperation and Minority Development Shukla charan Noatia supported the budget, emphasizing that it has been prepared for the development of nearly 4 million people. The budget aims for the overall progress of all sections of society, including minorities. To enhance and protect Wakf properties, ₹1.2 crore has been allocated, while ₹5 crore has been earmarked for development works in minority-dominated villages. Additionally, ₹20 crore has been allocated for socio-economic infrastructure development in minority-dominated blocks under the Prime Minister’s Jan Vikas Karyakram. Another ₹9.35 crore has been allocated for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for minority students.
A new scheme aimed at improving the living standards of impoverished minority families has also been proposed, with an initial allocation of ₹1.5 crore for FY 2025-26.
Eleven treasury bench MLAs participated in the discussion, expressing their support for the proposed budget. Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy praised the Union Government for providing significant tax relief to the middle class in this year’s budget and thanked the central government on behalf of the state’s middle-class population. She noted that the state’s proposed budget reflects the aspirations of the people and mentioned schemes like Kisan Samman Nidhi, Crop Insurance Scheme, procurement of paddy at MSP, and the Super Thirty initiative. She described the budget as people-centric and welfare-oriented. MLA Pathanlal Jamatia said the budget aims at the development of all sections of people.
MLA Subodh Debbarma highlighted the progress in tribal development, school education, and higher education. MLA Tofazzal Hossain stressed that the budget focuses on the welfare of around 4 million residents. MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury said that the budget is timely and beneficial for the people. MLA Paul Dangshu pointed out that the proposed budget reflects a 16% increase in allocations compared to the previous fiscal year, aiming for Tripura’s economic and cultural growth. MLA Ram Pada Jamatia highlighted increased allocations in education, healthcare, agriculture, and water supply and expressed optimism about building a developed Tripura through various projects. MLA Sanjay Manik Tripura emphasized the state’s progress and endorsed the proposed budget. MLA Philip Kumar Reang called it a “roadmap for the future.” MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang mentioned projects like the Vidyajyoti scheme, improvements in healthcare infrastructure, and the resolution of the Bru resettlement issue as markers of Tripura’s progress.
Lastly, MLA Yadab Lal Nath described the budget as focused on the welfare of laborers, farmers, and the middle class.
