Agartala 24 March, 2025: In a joint operation conducted late last night, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a drug peddler at Agartala Railway Station.
The accused, identified as Imam Uddin (58), a resident of Chapra district in Bihar, was caught with 8.110 kilograms of dried cannabis (ganja), which had been concealed in a hand bag. According to police sources, Imam Uddin intended to transport the cannabis to Uttar Pradesh by train, using Agartala Railway Station as a transit point.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Agartala GRP police station.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Agartala GRP police station, stated that further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses. Imam Uddin is set to be presented before the honorable court today.
During initial questioning, the accused revealed that the seized cannabis could be sold for approximately ₹1.6 lakh in Uttar Pradesh.
