Agartala 24 Feb, 2025: Police, with its 150-year-old glorious history, continues to work tirelessly to maintain the democratic environment of the state while also excelling in sports. Today, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the 73rd BN Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2024-25 at Umakanta Football Stadium in Agartala. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that, along with maintaining law and order, Tripura Police is actively involved in various social activities. He credited the dedicated efforts of the police for ensuring peace in the state.
He also expressed gratitude to Tripura Police for hosting the championship for the first time in the state. The championship has attracted participation from 25 states, 4 union territories, and 7 central armed police forces. A total of 36 teams in the men’s category and 9 teams in the women’s category are competing in the event. The matches will be held across five astro-turf football grounds in West Tripura, South Tripura, and Gomati districts until March 7. The Chief Minister emphasized that such tournaments help foster strong relationships among players from different states, allowing them to engage in cultural exchanges. He also encouraged the participating players to explore Tripura’s rich heritage, culture, and historical tourist sites. Highlighting the state’s improved law and order situation compared to other regions, the Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their commitment to implementing the Act East Policy in the Northeast. He noted that this initiative has significantly boosted road, rail, and air connectivity, accelerating the overall development of the region.
He also pointed out that, under the HIRA model, Tripura has witnessed rapid infrastructural growth, including the development of six national highways and the modernization of MBB Airport. The event was attended by DGP Amitabh Ranjan, ADGP (Training) M. Raja Murugan, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, and Intelligence DGP Anurag Dhankar. ADGP (AP) G.S. Rao delivered the welcome address, and the Chief Minister was honored with a Guard of Honor by Tripura Police. He also met with the managers of all 45 participating teams, and an oath-taking ceremony for the players was conducted.
