Government Aims to Make the State Self-Reliant in Agricultural Production: Agriculture Minister
Tripura 15 Feb, 2025: The state government has prioritized increasing agricultural production to achieve self-sufficiency in food production. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated this while inaugurating the sub-division level Flower Exhibition, Pitha Fair, and Farmers’ Conference in Kanchanpur, North Tripura district today. The two-day event, organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, is being held at the premises adjacent to the Satsang Ashram in Kanchanpur.
Apart from the Agriculture Minister, the event was attended by MLA Philip Kumar Reang, Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Bhabanjan Reang, MDC Shailendra Chandra Nath, MDC Swapna Rani Das, social worker Arun Nath, Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department Manojit Majumder, and others. The welcome address was delivered by Kabir Debbarma, Superintendent of Agriculture from the department, while Suresh Reang, Chairman of the Agriculture Standing Committee of Dasda BAC, delivered the vote of thanks.
Speaking at the event, the Agriculture Minister emphasized the importance of self-reliance and maximizing land use for cultivation. He urged farmers to ensure that no land remains barren and to adopt scientific farming methods with modern agricultural equipment to boost production.
Notably, around 40 exhibition stalls were set up at the Flower Exhibition and Pitha Fair. Various types of vegetables and flowers were showcased, while members of self-help groups (SHGs) displayed an assortment of traditional pithas (rice cakes) at different stalls. Additionally, two farmers received power tillers on subsidy, and other farmers were provided with various agricultural equipment under different subsidy schemes.
