Government Initiatives Driving the Korbong Community Towards Development: Cooperation Minister
Tripura 12 Feb, 2025: Yesterday, For the holistic development of any community, it is essential to promote education and preserve its rich cultural heritage. Our country is a land of diverse languages and ethnic communities. The central government is actively working towards the development of small ethnic and linguistic groups across various states. Cooperation Minister Sukla charan Noatia made these remarks while inaugurating Korbong Festival 2025 at the Korbang Para Community Hall in Champabari village under Belbari Block.
While inaugurating the event, the minister highlighted that the Korbong community was on the verge of extinction. However, government initiatives are now steering the community towards development. The state government has undertaken various measures to promote the cultural heritage and education of the Korbang people. He also mentioned that Eklavya Model Residential Schools are providing free education to Indigenous students. Expressing optimism, he hoped that the Korbong Festival would be celebrated on an even larger scale in the coming years.

The event’s chief guest, MLA Biswajit Koloi, emphasized the need for focused efforts on the development of endangered ethnic communities. Other distinguished guests who addressed the gathering included Ganesh Debbarma, member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council; Biswajit Shil, Assistant Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad; Bisuchandra Korbong, community leader of the Korbong tribe; and Arjit Debbarma, DCM of Jirania.
Manoj Debbarma, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, delivered the welcome speech. The program was presided over by Roken Debbarma, Chairman of the Belbari BAC.
During the event, three senior members of the Korbong community were felicitated. Educational materials were distributed among students of Korbong High School. The festival also featured traditional cultural performances by the Korbong community, including folk songs and the Indigenous Jadukolija dance.
