Tripura 11 Feb, 2025: A workshop on “The Role of Bamboo in Mitigating Climate Change” was held today at the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) conference hall in Lichubagan. The event was inaugurated by Tripura’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment, Animesh Debbarma.
During his interaction with students, the minister discussed in detail the economic and environmental significance of bamboo in Tripura. Later, speaking to journalists, he emphasized that bamboo is a unique forest resource crucial for the state’s economic development. He stated that large-scale bamboo cultivation can significantly help mitigate climate change in the state.
He further highlighted that Tripura’s soil is highly suitable for bamboo production, making it an economically valuable resource. By utilizing bamboo efficiently, the people of Tripura can achieve economic prosperity.
The welcome address at the workshop was delivered by Dr. Abhinav Kant, In-Charge of BCDI. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Shashi Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, and Sushanta Banik, In-Charge of the Climate Change Cell.
The one-day workshop saw participation from 53 students from Tripura University, ICFAI University, TIT, and the College of Agriculture.
