Tripura 8 Feb, 2025: Tripura is rich in natural resources such as rubber, bamboo, natural gas, and tea, providing immense potential for industrial development in the state. To encourage domestic and international investors to establish industries, the state government has already introduced various policy guidelines. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this in his keynote speech at the closing ceremony of the two-day “Destination Tripura – Land of Opportunities: Business Conclave 2025,” held at Hotel Polo Towers.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that the purpose of this conclave is to create an industry-friendly environment in the state through mutual cooperation and participation of entrepreneurs and investors. He expressed confidence that investors would take the initiative to establish industries in Tripura, leveraging the state’s natural resources and industry-friendly policies.
Highlighting the importance of the Northeast in the country’s development, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often refers to the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi.” Through the Act East Policy, the Prime Minister has given special importance to the development of the northeastern states. He noted that rubber is one of Tripura’s key natural resources, making the state the second-largest rubber producer in India. To boost rubber-based industries, the state government is taking initiatives, including setting up a Rubber Park, which has attracted investors. Similarly, bamboo is another crucial natural resource, and the state government has introduced various incentives to promote bamboo-based industries. Additionally, the government has launched the Bamboo Mission to enhance bamboo cultivation. Investors are also being encouraged to establish fruit processing industries based on one of the state’s signature fruits, pineapple.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the tourism industry in the state’s economic development. The government is taking several initiatives to promote eco-tourism and religious tourism. Investors are also being encouraged to set up hotels to expand the tourism industry. To promote the state’s thriving agarwood industry, the government has introduced an Agar Policy. Currently, there are about 5 million agar trees spread across 2,000 hectares of non-forest land, attracting interest from both domestic and international investors.
During the conclave, the Chief Minister reiterated that Tripura is one of the most peaceful states in India. The state’s economy primarily depends on agriculture and agro-based industries. Among the northeastern states, Tripura ranks among the leaders in various development indicators. The state’s per capita income has increased to ₹1,77,723, more than double that of 2012. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown to 8.9%, ranking second among the northeastern states. To facilitate investments, the government has implemented policies like the “Single Window ‘SWAGAT’ Portal,” making the industrial setup process more accessible. These initiatives position Tripura as an ideal destination for potential investors.
Industries & Commerce Minister Santwana Chakma stated that this conclave would send a positive message about industrial development in the state. The government is making efforts to build a self-reliant Tripura through industrial progress. Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha remarked that despite being a small state, Tripura holds immense potential for industrial development, supported by improved law and order and a favorable business environment. Industries & Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte stated that investment in the state has increased significantly in recent years. This year’s conclave resulted in investors signing 87 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across various departments, with commitments totaling approximately ₹3,800 crore in investments across different sectors.
