Tripura 6 Feb, 2025: Festivals are deeply intertwined with our religion and traditional culture. The Noatia community’s heritage festival, Lampra Whathop, holds great significance as it revolves around the worship of their ancestral deity. Yesterday evening, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurated the 9th state-level Lampra Whathop Festival at Gorji Melarmath. The event was organized by the Noatia Hoda Tripura State Committee. Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia was also present at the inaugural ceremony.

In his speech, the Finance Minister highlighted that such festivals foster harmony among various communities, including Indigenous groups. He noted that the Noatia community has been celebrating this festival in the state since the royal era. The minister further stated that the government has taken several initiatives to promote the traditional culture of various Indigenous communities in Tripura. Additionally, efforts are being made to enhance the quality of education in Indigenous-dominated areas, with the establishment of residential English-medium schools, ensuring better educational opportunities for Indigenous children. He also emphasized the government’s focus on the overall development of these regions, including agriculture, allied sectors, connectivity, drinking water, healthcare services, and infrastructure development.
Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia reiterated that the current state government prioritizes the promotion and preservation of Indigenous cultural heritage. He stated that such festivals strengthen social harmony, and today, various Indigenous communities in the state are celebrating their traditional festivals with enthusiasm.
The event was also attended by Janakumar Noatia, Chairman of the Noatia Hoda Advisory Committee; Rajendralal Noatia, Chairman of the Noatia Law Committee; and Ghanaram Noatia. The welcome address was delivered by Noatia Hoda Secretary Patal Kumar Noatia, while the program was presided over by Chowdhury Udaysingh Noatia.
As part of the Lampra Whathop Festival, exhibition stalls from various government departments were set up, and a vibrant cultural program was organized.
