Boxnagar Correspondent | February 5: A youth from Putiya village was injured by BSF (Border Security Force) firing while attempting to cross the border. The injured youth has been identified as Roni Ahmed (22), a resident of Ward No. 2 of Putiya Gram Panchayat. He was reportedly trying to enter India from Bangladesh through Gate No. 151 at around 6 PM on Tuesday when BSF personnel, suspecting foul play, opened fire, critically injuring him.
According to sources, Roni Ahmed had developed a romantic relationship with and married a young woman from Khadla, Bangladesh, about six months ago. A couple of days ago, he illegally visited his in-laws’ house in Bangladesh. On Tuesday evening, he attempted to return to India in the same manner. BSF personnel at the border suspected that he might be involved with smugglers due to his suspicious behavior. Acting on this suspicion, the BSF personnel fired at him, hitting him in the neck and face.
Following the incident, the BSF immediately informed the Putiya Border Outpost (BOP), and additional personnel rushed to the spot. The injured youth was quickly transported to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in a BSF vehicle. However, due to the severity of his condition, the attending doctor referred him to GBP Hospital in Agartala.
The incident has led to heightened tension in the Putiya area. In response, BSF has reinforced security measures along the border.
