Review Meeting of South Tripura District-Based Fisheries and Animal Resource Development Department: Fisheries and Livestock Play a Crucial Role in Rural Economic Growth, Says Fisheries Minister
Belonia 27 December, 2024: Fisheries and livestock play a significant role in the development of the rural economy. The state government has prioritized both sectors. Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das highlighted this during a review meeting of the Fisheries, Animal Resource Development, and Scheduled Caste Welfare Departments for South Tripura District, held at the Circuit House in Belonia.
Explaining the purpose of the meeting, the minister stated that it aimed to assess whether the benefits of various schemes under these departments are reaching the people effectively, and to review the performance and progress of the departments. The utilization of funds allocated in the current fiscal year’s budget will also be scrutinized.
The minister emphasized the need for the departments to increase milk production in the district with greater commitment. He also stressed the importance of effectively utilizing water bodies to enhance fish production and meet local demand. The minister underlined the importance of coordination between officials and public representatives for the successful implementation of departmental projects and services.
Public representatives attending the meeting discussed various projects and services provided by the concerned departments. The minister directed departmental officials to take appropriate action based on the discussions raised by the public representatives.
Prominent attendees of the meeting included Deepak Dutta, Chairperson of South Tripura Zilla Parishad; Tapan Debnath, Vice-Chairperson; MLAs Mailafru Mog, Swapna Majumdar, and Ashok Mitra; Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Animal Resource Development Department; Jayanta Dey, Director of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department; District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar; sub-divisional magistrates, BDOs, chairpersons of panchayat samitis, municipal councils, and various departmental officials.
The meeting commenced with a one-minute silence in memory of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
