Tripura 11 November, 2024: In a swift response, Churaibari police successfully apprehended the mastermind behind a series of robberies within just 12 hours of the crime. A notorious thief, identified as Jiyab Uddin, was arrested, and various stolen items were recovered, following a string of robberies at three homes in the same panchayat area on the same night. The incident took place in Ward 6 of Churaibari Gram Panchayat under Churaibari Police Station.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station, Khokon Saha, a gang of thieves targeted the homes of Ramel Ahmed, son of Md. Abdul Rauf; Siraj Uddin, son of the late Khalil Uddin; and Abdul Salam, son of the late Rafiq Uddin, around 3 a.m. on Saturday night. They looted valuables, including cash and mobile phones. Upon receiving the complaint, Churaibari police launched an immediate investigation but were initially unable to apprehend anyone.
Later, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Jiyab Uddin, son of Kutuchan Miah, a resident of Ward 4 in Fulbari Gram Panchayat, around 6 p.m. on Sunday. They recovered several stolen items from his home, including mobile phones, monitors, a TV, CCTV cameras, a drill machine, a cutter, and a stolen motorbike.
During preliminary interrogation, Jiyab Uddin confessed to orchestrating the robberies with his gang at the three homes. Police have registered a theft case under case number 45/2024 and sections 305, 331(2), and 3/5 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police plan to present the accused in the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court on Monday, requesting police remand for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend other members of the gang.
