AGULI 07-04-23: The Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy, announced that the Centre has declared Tripura as the best state in the Northeast region for the successful implementation of e-procurement. Singha Roy attributed the achievement to the state’s mandatory requirement of e-procurement for any government purchase or contract valued beyond Rs 25,000, which ensures transparency.
Pranajit Singha Roy further stated that the total value of payments made through e-procurement and Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portals increased from Rs 4,451 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 7,441 crore in 2021-22. As of December 2022, the figure stands at Rs 7,373 crore in the current fiscal year.

The Finance Minister emphasized the importance of promoting digital payments in the government sector to maintain transparency. In Tripura, 80% of payments are currently made through digital platforms, and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has praised the state for its adoption of digital payment.
The successful implementation of e-procurement and promotion of digital payments in Tripura are significant steps towards transparency in government transactions, which can serve as a model for other states in the Northeast region.
