Aguli 04-04-23: Har Ghar Jal Slogan Falters as Village Pradhan in Beltala Blocks Water Supply to 70 Families
The government’s ambitious “Har Ghar Jal” slogan is facing a major setback in Beltala village, under Kadamtala in the North, as the village pradhan of ward no six is allegedly blocking the water supply to around 70 families. Instead of the promised household access to water, one ghar is receiving the entire supply, leaving the rest of the villagers suffering.
The women of the village, who were the worst affected, staged a protest on Monday by blocking the road. A police team led by Sub-inspector Biswajit Chowdhury and officials of the Drinking Water Department intervened, assuring the villagers of a solution soon. The officials arranged immediate water supply through tankers to mitigate the crisis.
The state government’s efforts to extend the pipe network and supply of water have been undermined by the actions of the village pradhan. This highlights the need for effective monitoring and regulation to ensure the equitable distribution of resources. It is crucial to ensure that the government’s efforts to provide basic amenities like water are not undermined by vested interests.
