Tripura, 2nd March, 2025: Agartala’s traffic police have come under scrutiny after reports emerged that vehicles are being fined even when stationary. A social media user recently highlighted an incident where a car, which was stopped with its brake lights on, was fined ₹2,000.
In the photo shared online, the vehicle appears to be at a halt, yet Tripura Police reportedly issued the fine for overspeeding. The speed limit in the area was 40 km/h, and the alleged speed of the vehicle was recorded at 41 km/h—just 1 km/h over the limit. This has sparked widespread criticism, with people questioning whether such minor speed violations warrant heavy fines. Many Agartala residents have taken to social media to express their frustration, with several claiming they too have received unjust fines.

The controversy has intensified following the implementation of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which oversees traffic monitoring. It is reported that a private company has been contracted to manage the system, with its staff responsible for capturing screenshots and issuing fines from 9 AM to 7 PM.
Critics allege that the company is focused on meeting revenue targets rather than ensuring fair traffic enforcement. This has led to growing dissatisfaction among Agartala citizens, who feel they are being unfairly penalized. Many are now demanding a legal review of these fines and greater transparency in the process.
