Agartala 01 Jan, 2025: The 43rd Agartala Book Fair is set to begin tomorrow at the Hapania International Fair Ground. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the event at 5 PM. The 13-day fair has been meticulously organized, with publishers and booksellers adorning their stalls with an array of books. This year’s central theme is “Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu” (May there be peace for all).
The fair will be open daily from 2:30 PM to 9 PM, while on holidays, it will start at 2 PM and continue until 9:30 PM.
The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs has appealed to clubs to purchase books for their libraries and raise awareness about the fair among the public. Like every year, the book fair will feature daily book launches, poetry sessions, panel discussions, quizzes, and cultural performances. Artists from various districts of Tripura and prominent performers from outside the state will participate in the cultural programs.
Free bus services have been arranged to facilitate visitors from different parts of Agartala to the Hapania fairground.
This year, the Agartala Book Fair will host 159 stalls, including 42 stalls from publishers and booksellers outside the state, such as West Bengal, Assam, and Delhi. On the concluding day, 14 awards will be presented to honor exceptional contributions in various fields, including:
1. Dhirendra Krishna Memorial Award for visual arts and architecture
2. Salil Krishna Memorial Award for literature
3. Kalikingkar Debbarma Memorial Award for classical music
4. Bhismadev Bhattacharya Memorial Award for short stories
5. Lalon Award for folk culture
6. Tripuresh Majumder Memorial Award for theater
7. Best Little Magazine Award
8. Radhamohan Thakur Award for the best Bengali publication
9. Daulat Ahmed Award for the best Kokborok publication
10. Best Minority Language Publication Award for non-Bengali and non-Kokborok languages
11. Young Talent Awards, including:
Satyaram Reang Award for dance, Ashwini Kumar Biswas Memorial Award for music, Sumangal Sen Memorial Award for visual arts, Ajit Majumder Memorial Award for theater
