Dharmanagar, 30 December 2024: Tragedy struck again in North Tripura as another out-of-state worker lost his life while cutting trees, marking the second such incident in 24 hours. The incident took place in the Uttar Hurua area under Dharmanagar sub-division on Monday.
According to reports, a group of five to six workers had been engaged in tree-cutting near Nitai Ashram for the past ten days. Around 1:30 p.m., a large tree branch fell and struck Kuti Malakar, a worker from Udharbond, Silchar, Assam, on the face. The impact caused severe bleeding, and he fell unconscious from the tree.
Fellow workers immediately alerted the Dharmanagar fire brigade. Fire service personnel rescued Malakar and rushed him to the Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The Dharmanagar police were informed and registered a case of unnatural death. Police have begun investigating the incident and informed the deceased’s family. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem formalities.
This tragic event follows another fatality on Sunday in the Panisagar Pekuchhara area, where a worker died after being crushed under a tree. These back-to-back accidents have left the residents of North Tripura in shock and mourning.
