Agartala, 17 May 2026: A content creator and mobile shop owner, Aditya Das, has been arrested on charges of allegedly raping a tribal Minor girl by luring her with the promise of gifting an expensive iPhone. He was arrested by Amtali Police late Saturday night.
According to reports, the accused had become acquainted with the victim, a tribal girl from Dhalai district, through Facebook a few days ago. Gradually, they started communicating regularly. Taking advantage of the situation, Aditya allegedly proposed meeting her and promised to gift her a costly iPhone.
The victim alleged that she came to Agartala by train on Saturday morning to buy medicines. As soon as she reached Badharghat Railway Station, Aditya arrived there on a high-end bike. Though he initially told her they would go elsewhere, he later took her to a three-storey hotel near the station, where he allegedly raped her forcibly. The victim also alleged that she was assaulted when she resisted.
She further claimed that while leaving the hotel, the accused kept her mobile phone with him and threatened to kill her when she tried to escape.
Following the incident, the victim lodged a written complaint against Aditya Das at the West Agartala Women Police Station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Shiuli Das conducted a raid at the accused’s mobile shop in front of Laxminarayan Bari on Saturday night and detained him from there.
Police sources said the accused is a resident of Kamalpur area. He owns two mobile shops in the city, one near Siddhi Ashram and another in front of Laxminarayan Bari. Besides being a businessman, he is also known as a content creator on social media. He is reportedly married and has children. At present, he was residing in the Gangail Road area.
Police also alleged that after being brought to the police station, the accused tried to intimidate officers by flaunting his influence and connections.
Later, he was handed over to Amtali Police and formally arrested around 2 am. A case has been registered under Sections 65(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Amtali Police Station OC Inspector Paritosh Das said that the accused was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon.
