Tripura, 31 Jan 2026: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and Border Security Force (BSF) was conducted at the residence of a notorious drug peddler in Dharmanagar, leading to the recovery of incriminating materials on Friday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team on Friday raided the house of Hafiz Uddin at Yakubnagar area under Bhagyapur village. During the search, the forces recovered ₹3 lakh in cash, a currency counting machine, empty polythene packets used for packaging narcotics, transaction records (account books), and sharp weapons.
However, the prime accused Hafiz Uddin managed to flee, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
Addressing the media, the Superintendent of Police (Anti-Narcotics) said that the operation was carried out jointly in the presence of the SDPO of Dharmanagar, Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, BSF Company Commander, and STF In-Charge, along with an Executive Magistrate, following due legal procedures.
“We had long been receiving credible information that the accused was involved in narcotics smuggling and was using his house as a storage and transit point for contraband items. During the raid, although no narcotic substances were found, several objectionable materials linked to drug trafficking were recovered, which confirms the authenticity of our intelligence,” the SP stated.
He further added that the seized cash and materials would be examined as per legal provisions, and if the accused fails to provide valid documents, strict action will be taken. The recovery of sharp weapons from inside the house has also raised serious concerns, indicating possible criminal intent.
The police emphasized that such joint operations will continue, especially in border areas, as part of the government’s commitment towards building a drug-free Tripura.
“This operation is a clear message to all those involved in drug-related activities. Our coordinated efforts will continue, and we seek full cooperation from the public,” the SP concluded.
Meanwhile, Dharmanagar Police have intensified search operations to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
