Tripura, 30 Jan 2026: The nation, along with the state of Tripura, observed Martyrs’ Day today to commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, paying solemn tributes to the Father of the Nation.
In the morning, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located near the Circuit House. Minister Santana Chakma, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das, and other officials were also present on the occasion and paid their respects.

Speaking to the media, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu said that Mahatma Gandhi not only preached truth, non-violence, and the use of indigenous goods but also practiced these principles throughout his life. He emphasized that even after so many years, Gandhian values remain highly relevant for the country.
The Governor expressed concern over the increasing incidents of violence seen in everyday life and in news reports, urging people to stay away from violence, even within households. He also cautioned against powerful nations attempting to dominate India in various forms, including through taxes and duties.
“The answer to all such challenges is one—using and purchasing swadeshi (indigenous) products,” the Governor said. He appealed to the general public to follow the principles laid down by Mahatma Gandhi, stating that adopting these values even today is essential for the nation’s well-being.
Governor Nallu concluded by expressing confidence that if citizens practice Gandhian ideals in their daily lives, they will collectively contribute to building a stronger and brighter future for the country.
