Agartala, Jan 29: Amtali Police arrested a Bangladeshi national on Wednesday night for illegally entering Tripura, highlighting persistent infiltration despite intensified security measures along the international border.
The arrested individual has been identified as Abdur Rahman, son of Mostafa, a resident of the Chittagong region of Bangladesh. He was apprehended by ASI Sachin Debbarma near Hapania Nirmala Hotel under Amtali police station.
Police registered a case against him under the Passport Act the same night. On Thursday afternoon, Rahman was produced before the court, where police sought his custodial remand for further interrogation.
Confirming the arrest, Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Paritosh Das said the accused would be questioned to identify those who helped him cross the border illegally and enter the state.
According to police sources, illegal infiltration continues in the region, allegedly facilitated by local broker networks that, in exchange for large sums of money, help Bangladeshi nationals cross the international border by evading the vigilance of the Border Security Force (BSF). Investigations are underway to uncover the larger nexus behind such activities.
