Bishalgarh: Jan 29. Madhupur Police achieved major success on Thursday by seizing a large consignment of smuggled rice worth over ₹6 lakh and recovering four stolen motorcycles in two separate operations conducted on the same day.
Acting on tip-off, a team led by Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee, along with a large police force and BSF personnel from the Kamthana camp, conducted a raid at the Kamthana border market in the morning.
During the operation, police recovered over 200 bags of Indian rice hidden behind the market, allegedly meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh. Although no arrests were made, the seized rice was brought to Madhupur Police Station.
In another operation, police led by Sub-Inspector Uttam Pal recovered four stolen motorcycles—two Yamaha and two Bajaj Pulsar—from a forested area near Konaban Brick Kiln Choumuhani. The bikes were reportedly stolen from different outskirts of the city and hidden in deep forest to evade detection before being smuggled across the border.
Later, police from Abhoynagar Outpost under NCC Police Station took custody of the recovered motorcycles for further legal proceedings.
