Tripura, Jan 28, 2026: President of India Droupadi Murmu has felicitated Smt. Bijaya Devi Jamatia of Gomati district, Tripura, for her motivational achievement and successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) solar pump project.
Smt. Bijaya Devi Jamatia, wife of Tejendra Jamatia and a resident of Dalak Village Committee under Amarpur subdivision, has emerged as a role model in the effective use of renewable energy in agriculture. Through the PM-KUSUM solar pump project, she has achieved sustainable water management, significantly benefiting her agricultural activities and household needs.
According to local reports, the solar pump has ensured adequate irrigation for her farmland while also meeting water requirements for her kitchen and family. In addition, she has successfully utilized the facility for flower and vegetable cultivation, leading to enhanced productivity and improved income for her family. The project has delivered multiple economic and social benefits, strengthening self-reliance and livelihood security.
An inspection team from the concerned authority, deputed to assess the implementation of the project, reportedly found the initiative highly successful and inspiring. Her achievement has also motivated neighbouring farmers to adopt solar-based irrigation solutions. Based on the positive and encouraging reports sent to New Delhi, the President invited Smt. Bijaya Devi Jamatia for felicitation, recognizing her exemplary contribution.
The PM-KUSUM scheme, implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), aims to solarize the Indian agricultural sector. The scheme provides financial support of up to 60 percent subsidy for the installation of standalone solar pumps (up to 7.5 HP) and promotes the solarization of existing grid-connected pumps. It also enables farmers to generate additional income by selling surplus solar power to the grid, thereby promoting clean energy and enhancing farmers’ income.
The felicitation of Smt. Bijaya Devi Jamatia stands as a proud moment for Tripura and highlights the transformative impact of renewable energy initiatives in empowering farmers and strengthening rural livelihoods.
