Tripura, Jan 20: Acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals on Monday evening for illegally entering India through the India–Bangladesh border in the Simna area of Tripura.
The arrests were made by personnel of Sundartila Outpost near West Simna Market, where the three individuals were found roaming with luggage under suspicious circumstances. During preliminary questioning, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals.
The arrested persons have been identified as Monir Hossain (18) from Mymensingh, Nazmul Haque (39) from Gazipur, and Ripon Hossain (46) from Tangail district of Bangladesh.
According to police sources, the trio had entered Indian territory earlier on Sunday by crossing the barbed wire fencing at an unidentified point along the India–Bangladesh border in the West Simna area.
Officer-in-Charge of Gandachhara Outpost, Inspector Dhruva Juriya, along with his team, was conducting routine mobile patrolling when they noticed the three individuals walking with luggage near the market. Suspecting their movement, the police team stopped them for verification. The individuals failed to produce any valid travel or identity documents.
Following their detention, they were handed over to Sidhai Police Station, where a suo motu case was registered against them. They were subjected to prolonged interrogation.
Confirming the arrest, Sidhai Police Station Officer-in-Charge A.K. Chakma stated that the accused would be produced before the court on Monday. He added that police are investigating whether any local persons were involved in facilitating their illegal entry and if more individuals are linked to the incident.
During preliminary interrogation, the detained Bangladeshi nationals revealed that they had entered India in search of employment. Further investigation is underway.
