Agartala: Jan 18. Tipra Motha leaders on Saturday alleged a political conspiracy behind the January 8 Hezamara incident, in which two BJP workers were seriously injured in an attack allegedly carried out by Motha miscreants. They termed the FIR subsequently filed by BJP leaders “false, unjust and politically motivated.”
According to EM Rabindra Debbarma, Motha workers were deliberately targeted despite having no involvement in the incident and warned of intensified protests if the case was not withdrawn within 48 hours.
Debbarma said the incident occurred around 9 pm near Hezamara Market despite the presence of CRPF and TSR personnel, in which two persons reportedly sustained head injuries. He alleged that BJP Yuva Morcha leader Binod Debbarma later filed a suo motu FIR naming around 10 individuals, all Tipra Motha workers. Questioning the FIR, he said the TMP party office was closed at the time and many of the accused were at home, making the allegations baseless.
He further alleged harassment of Tipra Motha leaders during night hours and accused the BJP of conspiring to create unrest in the Simna Assembly constituency. Debbarma also questioned BJP’s claim of being the world’s largest political party, citing the heavy deployment of TSR and CRPF personnel for constructing a party office. He rejected allegations against Minister Brishaketu Debbarma, challenged BJP to produce evidence, and suggested CCTV verification.
The statements were made during a mass protest rally organised at noon by the Tipra Motha Party’s Youth and Women wings YTF and TWF of Simna Block Committee, which marched from Hospital Choumuhani to Hezamara Market.
MLA Ranjit Debbarma in his address called the January 8 incident a political conspiracy in the Simna assembly constituency and questioned the legality of the BJP party office construction, alleging it may stand on government land. He also directed Tehsil and Sub-divisional administration to properly take proper necessary actions.
The protest was attended by Minister Brishaketu Debbarma, TTAADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma, MLAs Ranjit Debbarma, Philip Kumar Reang and Sanjoy Manik Tripura, TWF President Manihar Debbarma along with several leaders and supporters of YTF and TWF.
The Tipra Motha leadership appealed for peace in the region while warning against selective targeting of party workers for political purposes.
