Tripura, 16 Jan 2026: Members of the Hindu community staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police on Wednesday, condemning an alleged attack on a Hindu family in the Aralia Loknath Para area and demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of January 6, 2026, around 9:30–10:00 pm, when a group of around 40–50 miscreants allegedly forced their way into the house of a Hindu family by breaking the main gate. The attackers reportedly vandalised the house, smashed lights, entered the prayer room, and desecrated religious idols.
The family’s 20-year-old son, Kuldeep Sarkar, was allegedly brutally assaulted. When his parents, Gopal Sarkar and Madhabi Sharma, and his minor sister Kirtika Sarkar (15) tried to intervene, they were also attacked. Kirtika reportedly lost consciousness, while Madhabi Sharma sustained injuries and alleged that her clothes were torn during the assault.
The next morning, police visited the spot, recovered items allegedly left behind by the attackers, and registered a General Diary entry. Later, all four injured family members underwent medical examinations and filed an FIR at the concerned police station, naming several accused whom they claim to have identified. However, the family alleged that no arrests have been made so far.
Speaking to the media, Madhabi Sharma, a school teacher and resident of Aralia Loknath Para, said her family has been facing harassment since they built their house six to seven years ago. She alleged that stones were frequently thrown at their house at night in an attempt to force them out. Complaints were earlier lodged with the police and local clubs, following which an understanding was reached for peaceful coexistence.
However, she claimed that the harassment continued intermittently, culminating in the violent attack on January 6. Sharma said she has provided the names of the accused, including Mukul Mia, Akash Mia, Russel Mia, Rojina Begum and others, to the police.
The Hindu community leaders stated that such incidents are unacceptable and demanded strict action against those involved to ensure safety and communal harmony in the area. They urged the police administration to take immediate steps so that the family can live without fear, especially as the victim’s daughter is appearing for her Madhyamik examinations.
Police officials have said that the matter is under investigation.
