Agartala: Jan 08. Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma on Wednesday condemned the incident at Hezamara, asserting that law and order falls under the Chief Minister’s jurisdiction and that the police will take action strictly as per the law. However, he strongly objected to what he described as the harassment of Tipra Motha leaders by naming them in an FIR despite having no involvement in the incident.
Addressing a press meet-cum-joining programme at Chandra Mehal on Thursday noon, Debbarma said Tipra Motha does not support violence in any form. He clarified that prior to the incident, he had already directed party leaders not to remain around market areas, a move aimed at preventing any untoward situation.
The minister alleged that later in the night between 10 and 11 pm BJP leaders, allegedly in an intoxicated state, raised slogans and subsequently attempted to implicate Tipra Motha leaders by pressing their names in connection with the incident. He termed the act of naming a party leader without involvement as “totally unprecedented and unacceptable.”
Reacting to allegations made by local BJP leader Binod Debbarma regarding his alleged involvement, the MoS said that he shares a cordial, brother-like relationship with Binod Debbarma and expressed disappointment over such remarks, calling them unwelcome. He added that he would seek clarification from him over the comments. Reiterating his stand, the MoS said that neither he nor his party would ever spend money on violence.
Before the media address, a total of 72 BJP leaders formally joined the Tipra Motha Party under the leadership of Devid Murasingh from the Mirza–Kathalia–Rajapur ADC constituency. Speaking after joining, the new joinees claimed that the BJP’s promises had not been reflected on the ground in their constituency, citing unresolved issues, including the demand for the Roman Script, as key reasons for switching allegiance.
The press meet was attended by Tipra Motha spokesperson Rajeshwar Debbarma, Devid Murasingh, Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, and leaders.
