Agartala, Jan 5: Police on Saturday arrested a man with a country-made pistol in connection with the shooting of a woman identified as Dipali Debbarma under Radhapur police station area.
The incident took place on January 3 when Dipali Debbarma was brought to Khumlwng Kherengbar Hospital with a gunshot injury. Acting on information received from the hospital, police initiated an investigation and arrested her brother, Sarendra Debbarma, recovering a country-made pistol from his possession.
According to police, the accused stated that he had found the pistol in a nearby forest and that the firearm went off accidentally while he was checking it, causing the bullet to hit his sister on the left side of her chest.
Police have seized the weapon, registered a case under the Arms Act, and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
