Agartala: Jan 03. In a joint initiative aimed at tackling crimes against women and the growing menace of drug abuse, Khowai Police and Dasarath Deb Memorial College on Saturday organised a debate competition among college students at the college auditorium.
The programme was inaugurated by Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singh Roy in the presence of Superintendent of Police Ranaditya Das, Khowai Police Station OC Krishnadhan Sarkar, advocate Abhijit Bhattacharyya, college principal Khokan Majumder, District Health Officer Padmaram Debbarma, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, faculty members and a large number of students.
Addressing the gathering, SP Ranaditya Das and other speakers highlighted how drug abuse is destroying the future of youths and posing a serious threat to families and society at large. They stressed that substance addiction not only harms individuals but also weakens the social fabric, urging students to stay away from drugs and guide others onto the right path.
The speakers warned about the rising risk of HIV infection among youths due to the use of shared syringes, calling it a serious challenge for future generations. If left unchecked, they cautioned, the situation could take a dangerous turn for the state.
SP Das noted that compared to 2023 and 2024, the spread of drugs had been brought largely under control in 2025, particularly in Khowai, though police efforts are continuing in the interest of society, the nation and the youth. He emphasized that collective action against drugs can help make the state drug-free.
The event concluded with an engaging debate competition among the students, focusing on social responsibility and preventive measures against women-related crimes and drug abuse.
