Tripura, 13 August 2025: The Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) of Agartala Government Medical College successfully conducted a three-day workshop on Research Methods from August 11 to 13, aimed at enhancing research skills among doctors, teachers, and research scientists, and providing practical knowledge of modern research techniques.
Organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Centre for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine, Yenepoya University, Mangalore, the workshop was led by Dr. T. S. Keshwa Prasad, Professor and Deputy Director. It was sponsored by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India.
In March 2025, the MRU of Agartala Government Medical College was recognized as one of the well-performing MRUs among 118 evaluated across the country by the DHR, earning it the status of nodal centre for this workshop.
A total of 25 participants took part, including 10 from the MRU at Agartala Government Medical College (evenly representing clinical and non-clinical branches) and 5 each from three other MRUs in the North-East — Diphu Medical College, Assam; Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Assam; and Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Arunachal Pradesh. Expert resource persons included Dr. K. Jiten Kumar Singh, Scientist-E, ICMR Headquarters, and Dr. Nisha Thakur, Scientist-C, DHR and Coordinator, North-East Zone.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Tapan Majumder, Director of Health Services; Professor (Dr.) H.P. Sharma, Director of Medical Education; Professor (Dr.) Abhijit Dutta, Academic Dean of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital; Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent of the college and GBP Hospital; and Professor (Dr.) Anup Saha, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College, along with all resource faculty members. The speakers highlighted the importance of research in medical science and its role in advancing public health.
The workshop covered hands-on training in formulating research questions and hypotheses, determining sample size, data collection techniques, statistical analysis, scientific proposal writing, publication strategies, and the patent process. Interactive lectures and practical exercises helped participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills.
The closing session featured participant feedback and distribution of certificates to all attendees. The Health Department, in a press release, commended the organizing team for their excellent planning and successful execution of the workshop.
