Agartala: Sept 25: The 110th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was observed with due respect in Khowai and Dharmanagar today through separate programmes organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs and Education departments and local civic bodies.
In Khowai, the School Education Department and Khowai ICA Department jointly organised a programme at the auditorium of Dasharath Deb Memorial College. MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, SC Sub-Committee Chairman Samir Kumar Das, Khowai Municipal Council Chairman Debashish Nath Sharma, the college principal, Information and Cultural Affairs Department official Rupak Acharya and others attended the event.
Speaking at the programme, Samir Kumar Das discussed Upadhyaya’s life, work and ideals, particularly his concepts of Integral Humanism and Antyodaya. Speakers highlighted the importance of focusing on the development and welfare of people at the bottom of society and taking Upadhyaya’s ideas on morality, duty and social welfare to the younger generation.
In Dharmanagar, the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Affairs Office and Dharmanagar Municipal Council jointly organised a programme at Vivekananda Sardha Shatabarshiki Bhavan. Eminent educationist Gurupada Chakraborty inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp after guests paid floral tributes to Upadhyaya’s portrait.
Chakraborty spoke about Upadhyaya’s life, philosophy and social thought, and stressed the relevance of Integral Humanism for present society and youth.
The Dharmanagar programme concluded with cultural performances by artists from 17 local cultural organisations.
