Agartala, September 23: The vocational education programme under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) in Tripura has provided Class IX students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in agriculture through an industrial visit at PM SHRI South Jumerdhepa High School in Sepahijala district.
The Agriculture Trade-focused visit allowed students to observe agricultural activities and workplace practices directly, helping them relate lessons taught in school to their practical applications.
A press note said the exposure was intended to give students an understanding of agriculture as a skill-based and employment-oriented sector and familiarise them with possible career avenues.
The programme was facilitated by Valeur Fabtex Pvt. Ltd., the Vocational Training Provider (VTP) associated with the school. The school’s Vocational Trainer guided the students during the visit, which was organised under the leadership of Ikram Hossen, State Coordinator of the organisation, in coordination with school authorities and the School Education Department.
The initiative is part of the Vocationalisation of School Education programme being implemented through NSQF. The framework seeks to introduce practical skill development alongside conventional academic education and establish links between students, industry and employment opportunities.
For 2025-26, the Project Approval Board (PAB) of Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme under the Ministry of Education approved NSQF-compliant vocational education in seven sectors for 191 selected government high and higher secondary schools in Tripura.
The sectors covered under the programme include IT–ITeS, Electronics, Agriculture, Organised Retail, Power, Automotive and Telecom.
Of the 191 schools, 138 are introducing vocational education through a first sector, while 53 schools with an existing vocational programme are adding a second sector.
The initiative is being implemented by the School Education Department, Government of Tripura, through Samagra Shiksha and the PM SHRI Scheme, with support from the designated VTP.
The industrial visit formed an important practical component of the Agriculture Trade, giving students an opportunity to move beyond textbook-based learning and gain first-hand exposure to the field.
Such activities are expected to strengthen practical knowledge, workplace awareness, communication and problem-solving skills while helping students understand career opportunities in agriculture, the press note said.
The programme follows the “Learning by Doing” approach and is aimed at developing skilled, confident and career-conscious students through greater exposure to practical learning.
