Tripura, 02 Sep 2026: Concern has gripped the North Bharat Chandra Nagar area of Belonia after 13 Class VII students of North Bharat Chandra Nagar Higher Secondary School reportedly fell ill with sudden breathing difficulties and were taken to hospital for treatment.
According to preliminary information, the students developed breathing problems shortly after the school began on Wednesday. They were subsequently taken to a nearby healthcare facility, where several of them were admitted and are currently undergoing treatment.
The exact cause of the sudden illness remains unclear. Importantly, according to a parent, the affected students had not consumed the school’s Mid-Day Meal before falling ill. One parent said that his daughter, a Class VII student, became unwell before the scheduled meal time after arriving at school.
Parents have expressed concern over the incident and questioned the response from the school authorities. One parent alleged that students themselves helped carry the affected children out of the school and arrange transportation to the healthcare facility.
A parent identified his daughter as Ananya Deb, a Class VII student from North Bharat Chandra Nagar. He said she was suffering from breathing difficulties and had been given nebulisation and oxygen at the hospital.
At one point, parents reported that nine students had been admitted at the facility, while several others were receiving treatment elsewhere, taking the reported number of affected students to around 13.
Administrative and health officials are reportedly looking into the incident to determine what caused the students to develop sudden breathing difficulties.
The exact cause of the illness has not yet been established, and further medical and administrative investigation is awaited.
