Kailashahar, August 26: A modern Industrial Training Institute (ITI) is nearing completion in Kailashahar, Unakoti district, as part of a major state government initiative to strengthen technical education and skill development across Tripura.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), with modern training centres being developed at 19 ITIs across the state. The Kailashahar centre has been constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹6 crore for civil works alone and is reportedly the first among the 19 centres to be completed.
Speaking about the project, technical adviser Bidhan Das said the initiative aims to establish technology-based training centres equipped with the latest technologies. Both theoretical and practical training will be provided to help trainees acquire industry-relevant skills and improve their employment and placement opportunities.
According to Das, the Kailashahar centre features a Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) structure designed with modern engineering techniques. The building has been equipped with turbo ventilators to facilitate natural air circulation and improve the overall working environment.
He said the construction was completed within the stipulated timeframe and that the department had formally communicated that the centre was ready for takeover.
The centre will also house advanced machinery and technology-based training facilities, including laser cutting and laser-guided machines, electric vehicle (EV) mechanical systems, modern painting technology, epoxy flooring-related facilities and training equipment for modern electrical devices.
The initiative is expected to provide young people in Unakoti district with access to modern technical training and create new avenues for employment, including opportunities outside the state. With TCS involved in the initiative, officials expressed hope that the training will maintain high quality and remain aligned with the evolving requirements of the industrial sector.
Once inaugurated, the Kailashahar ITI is expected to play an important role in developing a skilled workforce and meeting the growing demand for technically trained personnel in emerging industries.
