Tripura, 22 August 2026: Kolshirmukh Village Chairman and meat trader Kausoram Reang was allegedly assaulted by two youths at Baikhora vegetable market on Saturday. The incident reportedly took place while he was on his way to the market carrying meat.
According to Kausoram Reang, the two youths attacked him from behind without warning. He alleged that Baikhora market chilli traders Bijan and Sujan were involved in the assault. Reang sustained injuries in the attack and claimed that the assailants also attempted to kill him.
In an injured condition, Reang somehow reached Baikhora Police Station and reported the incident. Police subsequently took him to Baikhora Primary Health Centre, where he received initial treatment. Doctors later referred him to Shantirbazar District Hospital for further treatment.
Reang claimed that he had an earlier argument with Bijan Banik over a business-related issue at Laxmichhara market. He suspects that Saturday’s attack may have been carried out in retaliation for that dispute.
Reang said he has lodged a complaint at Baikhora Police Station and demanded appropriate legal action against those allegedly involved in the attack.
The statements of the accused Bijan and Sujan are yet to be ascertained. Police action based on the complaint is now being awaited.
