Guwahati, July 27: The Government of Assam has announced that it will withdraw all cases registered in connection with protests over the alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) examination that were registered before 6:00 PM on July 26, 2026.
According to an official press release issued by the Home & Political Department, a total of five cases had been registered in the state, resulting in the arrest of 13 persons.
The government has decided that:
No adverse legal action will be initiated by any police authority against individuals involved in these protests.
The process of withdrawing all registered cases, irrespective of their current stage, will be initiated promptly as per law.
The review of arrests and the release of those already arrested or detained in these cases will be undertaken expeditiously.
No further adverse action will be taken against the individuals involved, and the matter will be treated as closed without any future proceedings on this account.
The decision, signed by Ajay Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home & Political Department, states that the move aims to strengthen accountability and undertake systemic reforms across the examination and higher education ecosystem.
