Tripura, June 27: A 50-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son following a family dispute at North Rangamura under Sonamura Sub-division on Saturday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Wakhi Rai Tripura (50). According to local residents and police, the accused, Samir Tripura, was allegedly addicted to intoxicants and frequently quarrelled with and assaulted his father.
On Saturday afternoon, during another altercation, Samir allegedly struck his father with a wooden stick. The blow reportedly landed on Wakhi Rai Tripura’s chest, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene.
After receiving information, police from Jatrapur Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body. SDPO Shashi Mohan Debbarma also visited the scene.
Police said they received information that a man was found dead at his residence around 3:00 pm. Following complaints from local residents, one person was detained and an investigation was launched. The body has been shifted to the morgue for post-mortem examination.
Police have since taken the accused into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway. Investigators are examining all aspects of the case to determine the exact circumstances behind the incident.
The incident has once again raised concerns among local residents over the growing problem of substance abuse in the hilly areas of Tripura. However, police said the investigation is still in progress and the exact motive will be established after completing the inquiry.
