Agartala, June 23: The West Tripura district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, across the Amtali Police Station area for 48 hours following the murder of a youth in Kathaltali, which has led to heightened public tension and concerns over possible law-and-order disturbances.
According to an official order issued by District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, the administration has taken the step after assessing the prevailing situation and receiving reports of growing public unrest following the killing.

The order states that there is a reasonable apprehension of retaliatory violence, unlawful assembly, and a breach of public peace and tranquillity in the area. To prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order, the district administration has prohibited the assembly of five or more persons and the carrying of weapons within the entire jurisdiction of Amtali Police Station.
The restrictions came into effect from 6:00 PM on June 23, 2026, and will remain in force until 5:00 PM on June 25, 2026, covering a total period of 48 hours.
The administration clarified that the order will not apply to military and paramilitary personnel, state police personnel engaged in maintaining law and order, government officials performing emergency duties, and patients requiring immediate medical treatment.
The prohibitory order was issued in the aftermath of the sensational murder of Samir Das, secretary of Tarun Sangha Club at Kathaltali. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents, prompting the deployment of additional police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in sensitive areas to prevent any escalation of tensions.
Police have already launched an intensive investigation into the murder case. One accused has reportedly been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend another suspect allegedly involved in the crime. A dog squad and forensic experts have also visited the crime scene and collected evidence.
Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Local leaders and community representatives have also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and help maintain peace in the area.
The district administration warned that any violation of the prohibitory order will invite legal action under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
With security forces maintaining a strong presence and investigations continuing, officials remain hopeful that the situation will remain under control while justice is delivered through due legal process.
