Agartala, June 9: In a strong message against drug abuse and trafficking, the West Tripura district administration and police launched a joint anti-drug operation at Battala Old Hawkers Market in Agartala on Monday night. During the drive, a youth allegedly selling brown sugar sachets was caught red-handed and detained.
The operation was led by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, who personally participated in the surprise raid.
Speaking to reporters, SP Namit Pathak said the administration, police, media, and the public have come together to wage a united campaign against narcotics. He emphasized that apart from legal and police action, authorities will also focus on identifying drug peddlers and encouraging social awareness to combat the growing menace.
“We want people to remain vigilant and share information about drug-related activities. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the drug trade,” he said.
The SP further stated that the campaign is not a one-time initiative. Joint teams of the administration and police will continue conducting surprise inspections and raids at locations where information about drug-related activities is received, irrespective of the time of day.
He described the initiative as a coordinated effort involving law enforcement, the administration, and civil society to tackle the drug problem through sustained action and public participation.
Officials expressed hope that the ongoing campaign would help curb drug trafficking and create greater awareness among citizens about the dangers of substance abuse.
