Agartala, Apr 14: The three-day 7th state-level ‘Biu Parab’ festival commenced in Kanchanpur of North Tripura with colourful celebrations on Monday evening.
The festival was inaugurated at around 8 PM by MLA Jadab Lal Debnath through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Among others present were Laljuri Panchayat Samiti chairman Ajanta Chowdhury, Biu Parab committee chairman Kamalkrishna Nath, MDCs Shailendranath and Swapna Das, and Barua community state secretary Tablu Barua.
The event aims to showcase the rich tradition and culture of the Barua community. Besides Barua cultural displays, the festival also features dance, music and performances by various communities including Bengali, Chakma, Mog and Reang, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The festival, which began on Monday, will continue till the Bengali New Year. Organisers expect large participation from locals as well as visitors from distant areas.
The initiative to bring people together through cultural bonding has drawn appreciation from various quarters. The concluding day will feature special cultural programmes and a closing ceremony.
