Agartala, Apr 14. An FIR has been registered at Kalamchoura Police Station against 35 individuals, including Boxanagar MLA Tafajjal Hossain, in connection with a violent incident at a polling booth in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
The complaint was filed by Tipra Motha worker Abhiram Debbarma, who is currently undergoing treatment at Bishramganj Hospital. He said the filing of the FIR was delayed due to his medical condition.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 9:30 AM when the MLA allegedly arrived near the polling station with a large group of supporters, leading to tension in the area. When Tipra Motha workers alerted the police, a heated exchange reportedly followed.
The complaint further alleged that two individuals were sent to a nearby locality on a motorcycle carrying explosives, and one of them hurled bombs, causing panic among residents. More explosives were allegedly thrown near the polling station soon after.
It also stated that some individuals were seen firing from pistols during the chaos. Several people, including police personnel and voters, were reportedly injured.
Tipra Motha workers claimed they resisted the attack, following which the alleged assailants fled the spot after police intervened. The party has accused the MLA of orchestrating the incident to facilitate rigging at the polling booth.
Police action in the matter is awaited.
