Agartala, Mar 24. In a key move to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections, senior police officials from Tripura and Assam held a high-level interstate coordination meeting in Dharmanagar on Tuesday. The meeting focused on strengthening security along the inter-state border ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections and the by-election in Tripura’s Dharmanagar constituency.
The meeting took place at the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of North Tripura district. It was attended by SP Avinash Rai from North Tripura, SSP Leena Doley from Sri bhumi district of Assam, and DYSP (Sadar) Manas Chowdhury, among others.
Officials from both states agreed to enhance cooperation to maintain law and order in border areas and prevent any disruption during the electoral process. Key decisions included intensifying joint patrolling and naka checking in sensitive border zones, adopting a zero-tolerance policy against illegal infiltration, drug trafficking, and unlawful cash movement, and establishing a real-time information-sharing mechanism between the two police forces.
The officers also emphasized the need for area dominance exercises to build public confidence, ensuring that voters can participate in the democratic process without fear or intimidation.
The meeting is seen as a crucial step toward seamless coordination between the two states to facilitate a secure and smooth electoral process in the region.
