Tripura, 04 March 2026: In a major anti-drug operation, police in Patharkandi of Sribhumi district, Assam, seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets and arrested one suspected drug peddler on Tuesday.
The incident took place on the afternoon of March 4 during Holi when police were conducting naka checking at the Cheragi Bypass area. Acting on a tip-off about a possible drug consignment being transported from Nilambazar, the district police intensified surveillance and checking in the area.
During the operation, a WagonR vehicle bearing registration number AS 01GQ 5191, coming from Nilambazar towards Patharkandi, was stopped and searched. Upon inspection, police recovered around 10,000 banned Yaba tablets packed in plastic packets from the vehicle.
Police arrested Jabid Hussain, who was reportedly driving the vehicle and suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. The seized narcotics are estimated to have an international market value of nearly ₹1 crore, according to police sources.
The vehicle used in transporting the drugs has also been seized. Police have registered a case against the accused under the NDPS Act and are currently interrogating him at the police station for further investigation.
