Agartala, 31 Dec 2025: Emphasising that the present state government is committed to serving people from all sections of society, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha on Sunday laid foundation stones and inaugurated several development projects related to drinking water supply in Ward No. 32 of Agartala Municipal Corporation, near Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir – Yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government aims to earn people’s trust and confidence through its work. To resolve public problems, the state government is implementing various welfare schemes and ensuring that essential services such as food, clothing, housing, drinking water, electricity and civic amenities reach people’s doorsteps through planned development initiatives.

At the programme, Dr. Saha jointly laid the foundation stone and inaugurated projects including the installation of a 5.50 MLD capacity Water Treatment Plant, construction of a 1,000 kilolitre capacity overhead water tank near Banividyapith School, sinking of five deep tube-wells in Ward No. 32 and adjoining areas, arrangements to provide drinking water connections to 1,000 families, and execution of a 12-kilometre-long new water pipeline.
The Chief Minister said access to clean drinking water is a daily necessity for people. Through the Jal Jeevan Mission, the state government is working to ensure safe drinking water from plains to hilly areas. He added that work is underway to provide piped drinking water to every household in the Agartala Pur Nigam area.
Dr. Saha informed that projects inaugurated under the Agartala Jal Board would cost ₹22.55 crore. He noted that while developmental activities may sometimes cause temporary inconvenience, they are aimed at providing better civic services in the long run. He added that the government is taking up planned projects to transform Agartala into a modern city.
Under the Agartala Smart City Project, development works worth ₹580 crore have already been completed so far, covering 65 major projects. The Chief Minister said all initiatives are aimed at making Agartala a clean, beautiful city with improved civic facilities. He also added that the government is working to strengthen drinking water infrastructure not only in Agartala city but also in Indigenous and rural areas of the state.
Currently, around 85 per cent of households in the state have been provided with drinking water connections under the Nal Se Jal programme. The government’s target is to achieve 100 per cent coverage in the near future. Along with urban development, renovation of heritage sites and historically significant places is also underway, and a new Jackson Gate will be constructed in Agartala.
Speaking at the event, Agartala Pur Nigam Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said earlier the area faced acute problems related to drinking water, drainage, roads and electricity. However, these issues are now being systematically addressed. The programme was presided over by Agartala Pur Nigam Central Zone Chairman Ratan Datta.
Special guests included Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta and Pur Nigam Commissioner D.K. Chakma, while Agartala Municipal Corporation Secretary Abhishek Singh delivered the welcome address. A video clip showcasing development works undertaken by the Agartala Jal Board was also screened. During the programme, the Chief Minister felicitated three workers for their notable contribution to project implementation.
Later in the day, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the Maharani Tulsibati Balika Vidyalaya area to inspect the proposed site for construction of the new Jackson Gate. Speaking to the media, he said the state government is keen on preserving Tripura’s rich history and heritage, and renovation of heritage sites is being carried out accordingly.
During the inspection, Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, AMC Commissioner D.K. Chakma, and other senior officials were present.
