Tripura, 27 Sep 2025: Police from Baijal Police Station, with support from TSR personnel, launched a major anti-drug operation on Saturday morning and destroyed around 10,000 cannabis plants.
The raid was carried out in Kanchamati, Junia Colony and Khengrabari areas under Baijal jurisdiction, following a tip-off about large-scale illegal cultivation. According to police sources, nearly 2 kanis of land spread over six plots were being used to grow cannabis. The plants, along with nurseries, were uprooted and set ablaze on the spot.
Speaking about the drive, Baijal OC Jugal Tripura said the operation was based on specific intelligence and is part of the force’s continued efforts to curb illegal ganja farming in the region. He added that such drives will be intensified in the coming days.
Locals and members of the intelligentsia have welcomed the police initiative, noting that while action against drug cultivation is important, social awareness and community involvement are equally vital to save the youth from the menace of addiction and to build a drug-free Tripura.
