Tripura, 25 Sep 2025: Tension has gripped Ambassa as residents, municipal council employees, and office staff of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) voiced strong protests against SDM Rinku Reang, accusing him of repeated misbehavior and abusive conduct.
The latest incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when Kripamay Deb, an employee of the Ambassa Nagar Panchayat, allegedly faced verbal abuse and insults from the SDM. Shortly after, Deb fell ill and suffered a mild stroke. He was first taken to Ambassa Primary Hospital and later referred to Kulai District Hospital due to his deteriorating condition. Ambassa Municipal Council Vice-Chairman Gopal Sutradhar rushed to the hospital, while Councilor Uttam Adhikari condemned the SDM’s conduct, stating, “Since the day he joined, he has been misbehaving with councilors and staff, and today’s incident is the result of that behavior.”
Earlier in the day, residents of Dolubari, joined by several local clubs, staged a blockade on the Assam–Agartala National Highway to protest against the SDM’s repeated harassment. Protesters alleged that the SDM had not only mistreated local citizens but also abused a Booth Level Officer (BLO), who later fell seriously ill and is undergoing treatment outside the state.
The blockade, which lasted nearly three hours, caused major traffic disruption. Among those stranded was MLA Chittaranjan Debbarma. Upon receiving the news, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Ambassa police officials rushed to the spot and engaged in discussions with the agitators.
Protesters demanded the immediate transfer of SDM Rinku Reang, citing his continued arrogance and abusive behavior towards both officials and the public. Following assurance from the administration, the blockade was lifted and traffic movement resumed.
