Tripura, 8 sep 2025: Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has achieved another milestone in advanced healthcare with the successful completion of its fourth kidney transplant. The procedure, conducted on September 8, 2025, was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and the expertise of a joint team of doctors.
The recipient, a 23-year-old resident of Rabindrapalli, Taranagar (West), Sidhai Mohanpur, received a kidney donated by his 45-year-old mother. Both donor and recipient are reported to be in stable condition following the surgery.
This latest transplant was carried out by a combined team of specialists from AGMC & GBP Hospital and Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Manipur. The medical team included Consultant Nephrologists Dr. Manas Gop, Dr. Samaresh Pal, Dr. Reshmi Das, and Dr. Udayan Saha from AGMC, alongside Consultant Urologist & Transplant Surgeon Dr. Soumorendra Pounam and Dr. Maharabam Mahili from Shija Hospitals.
From AGMC, Consultant Urologists Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Lodh, and Dr. Jiban Debnath also played a key role. The anesthesia team included Dr. Kajol G. Momin and Dr. Gayatri S. Pillai from Shija Hospitals, as well as Dr. Bhaskar Majumder, Dr. Ranjit Reang, and Dr. Tapan Debbarma from AGMC.
Supporting staff such as OT nurses, floor nurses, and OT technicians were actively involved. The transplant was coordinated by Himadri Kar, with overall supervision by Senior Nursing Officer Tapati Chakraborty.
