Agartala, August 27, 2025: Tripura’s capital city is increasingly turning into a dangerous hotspot, with illegal arms being seized at regular intervals. In yet another major recovery, police unearthed four sophisticated pistols and seven magazines buried underground at the house of one Dipankar Sen in Amtali (North Madhyapara) area on Wednesday.
The raid was carried out jointly by Amtali Police Station and SDPO Amtali, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Namit Pathak. The arms were found concealed underground inside the premises of the house.
According to police, Dipankar Sen is already under arrest in connection with multiple arms-related cases registered across Tripura, including Dharmanagar, Sabroom and Madhupur. He is currently lodged in jail under case number 93 of Amtali Police Station. Acting on an intelligence input, the police team carried out the raid and recovered the arms.
“During the search operation, digging inside the house led to the recovery of four factory-made small arms and seven magazines. No live rounds were found. The seized arms will be sent for forensic examination,” SSP Pathak said.
The SSP further revealed that Dipankar Sen has at least seven criminal cases pending against him, most of them under the Arms Act, and is part of a larger illegal arms network operating across Tripura.
Recent Arms Recoveries in Tripura (2025)
The latest seizure adds to a string of alarming incidents this year:
August 27, 2025 (Amtali, North Madhyapara): 4 pistols & 7 magazines recovered from underground. May 2025 (Agartala–Firozpur Express): 8 factory-made pistols & 16 magazines seized from a train. June 2025 (Monacherra, North Tripura): 1 pistol & 6 rounds recovered from an individual. February 2025 (Sidhai, West District): Two persons arrested with a 7mm pistol. April 2025 (Tuikarma, Teliamura, Khowai): Two country-made guns & ammunition recovered. January 2025 (Dharmanagar, North Tripura): Two persons arrested with illegal pistols & magazines.
The frequent seizure of arms in Tripura highlights the presence of an active and dangerous illegal arms network, posing a serious threat to public safety. While each successful operation by police and intelligence agencies prevents possible tragedies, the recurring recoveries show that the “invisible danger” has not been fully eliminated yet.
Authorities maintain that continued vigilance and coordinated intelligence operations are crucial to dismantling the network and ensuring safety for ordinary citizens.
