Khowai, August 20: A dramatic late-night incident created chaos in Dauchhara Bazaar under Kalyanpur police station. Around 10 PM, a speeding Maruti car (registration number TR 06 D 0703) coming from Uttar Maharani Pur towards Kalyanpur lost control and rammed into several motorcycles and roadside pillars.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was moving at very high speed and caused panic among locals. “I was standing and talking on my phone when suddenly I saw the car speeding from behind. It rammed into the bikes, and I had to run for safety,” one local said.
After the collision, the driver attempted to flee the scene, which triggered immediate tension in the crowded marketplace. Locals informed Kalyanpur police, who rushed to the spot and began chasing the vehicle.
During the chase, the Maruti even hit the police’s own vehicle before being intercepted near Kalyanpur block area. The driver, identified as Bidhu Debbarma, was taken into custody along with the car.
Police sources confirmed that the car was being driven recklessly at high speed and caused damage to several bikes and property. “The vehicle was dangerously out of control and even tried to escape after hitting the police vehicle. Luckily, no lives were lost,” an officer said.
The incident has sparked widespread tension and discussions across the locality, with residents demanding stricter enforcement against reckless driving in the market area.
