Tripura, 18 August, 2025: Advocate informed that the incident dates back to 18 May 2019, when a woman from Boxanagar lodged a written complaint at the Boxanagar Police Station. According to the complaint, on that night, in the absence of her husband, the accused Nurun Nabi forcibly entered her house and raped her.
The case was registered by then Officer-in-Charge Rajib Saha, and the investigation was handed over to Investigating Officer Durga Kumar Rangkhwl. During the investigation, statements of around 18 witnesses were recorded, and a charge sheet was filed under Sections 457, 376, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The trial was conducted over several years, during which the court examined 17 key witnesses. After completing the trial, the District and Sessions Judge of Sipahijala, Shankari Das, pronounced the verdict on Monday.
The accused Nurun Nabi was convicted and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment under IPC Section 457 with a fine of ₹2,000 (in default, 15 days of imprisonment) and life imprisonment under IPC Section 376 with a fine of ₹5,000 (in default, two months of imprisonment).
Public Prosecutor Goutam Giri confirmed the judgment, calling it an important step in ensuring justice for the survivor.
